Allocating A Budget For Curtains What Are The Costs Involved

November 15, 2009

The window treatment you choose to decorate your windows will go a long way in determining exactly how much of a budget you’ll need to allocate.  Fabrics are not all the same and some will undoubtedly cost much more than others. Let’s take silk for example, this is one of the most expensive fabrics that you will come across. Does this mean it is the best fabric? Of course not. It is costly because the materials it is made from requires a lot of resources to make. Then there are other 100% natural materials that are not as expensive and this time lets discuss cotton. Is cotton the best natural material for the price? Probably so, but is it the best material for window curtains. That would be a matter of preference but from experience I can say that multi-blend fabrics are the most reasonably priced and are also the most durable and easiest to maintain.

Other considerations when it comes to plan your budget will be the curtain rod. These are very varied and because they are their prices also range from a few dollars to as high as several hundred dollars. Let’s put it this way, you can not use the most expensive fabric with the cheapest curtain poles. It simply doesn’t add up and you your curtains will look very poor on your windows. What  ever you choose to spend on your fabric you also must allocate a reasonable amount of money towards the curtain rod.

Installation must also factor in to your budget. Someone must install the curtains and if it’s not you then some one else has too. Luckily some curtain companies will do this for you either for a fee and maybe even free of charge. This is if you are buying from a company that is not online. But we all know that the best deals are found online. So if you purchase you window treatments online then it’s either you who installs them or someone else. Some people charge by the hour but others will charge per each window that they have to hang the curtains on. Small windows will cost less than larger windows. This is something that you will have to discuss with the person who will install your curtains for you.

There you have there are three main points to budgeting money to buy window curtains. 1- You have to set aside a budget for the fabric itself. 2- You have to also set aside a budget for the curtain rods that the curtains will hang from. And last you have to also allocate money for installation and the amount just like the amount for fabric and curtain rods will depend on the amount of work that will be required.

Window Curtains – Necessities for Every Home

September 23, 2009

Imagine a house without window curtains…..In my opinion that’s unimaginable! every house needs window curtains on every window, not just for decoration but for privacy.

A house that doesn’t provide privacy to the family really isn’t a home, is it? I can’t imagine my home without the valances and curtains; it would be so open to the outside!

A lot of people can have fun choosing their curtains and hangings for their home decor, it’s one of the things I personally enjoy in life, and I always like to change my house decor from time to time. One of the things I realize every time I decide it’s time that I made a change around the furniture is that the window curtains make the biggest difference. They complete the house.

Window curtains are considered the final touch for the home decor to many people and I completely agree, picture a door without a door knob, or a window without a window frame, it just simply isn’t done.

A lot other people consider them optional which doesn’t make sense unless you have a really small house with really small windows.

If you overlook the curtains you’ll only make your house look empty, in summer or winter they are a must have.

Even if you disagree with me about their importance in completing the house decor I’m sure you know they block sunlight from coming in during the day if you want to make your home a bit dim, not to mention giving all the privacy you need.

Not only that, window curtains – or any hangings for this matter – give a welcoming hint to guests and visitors, especially if you have nice and fashionable ones hung up. Instead of your guests entering a house and feeling as if there is something missing in it, they will feel most delighted and will admire your taste in home decorating.

Overall window curtains are what every family needs to complete their house, feel the warmth and more importantly feel at home.

Window Curtain Rods

September 23, 2009

Buying the right window curtain rods are just as important as getting the window curtains themselves, you need to get something that will match and compliment your valance’s style and fabric else it’ll be useless hanging up curtains for fashion and decoration in the first place.

Just like window curtains, curtain rods come in many different styles and colors, you can find all kinds of different onese in the malls or stores and you’ll have a lot of choices ahead of you.

It’s best to get the curtains first then the curtain rods other than the other way around, that way is more convenient.

The confusing part is choosing the right curtain rods for your window valances. If you don’t want anything to fancy but something acceptable you can get the basic white metal rod which will look good with type of curtains you choose but they were made for light weight window curtains so if you have heavy fabric, it’s best you get something else.

Traverse rods are a pretty cool kind that I seem to find most interesting, they are made to be able to carry heavier types of curtains and valances, and judging by the sizes they come in, they are pretty heavy.

If you can’t actually attatch a curtain rod to the wall then the best choice for you is a pressure rod, these are basically like shower curtain rods because you have to twist and turn them until the fit perfectly.

Window Curtains Ideas

September 23, 2009

Sometimes searching for the right window curtains for the house can be confusing and sometimes you want to try something different with them but just don’t exactly know what. Read below to know a few simple ideas for your window curtains that will surely come in handy for any house decoration.

The first thing you should consider when you’re shopping for window coverings is the tiebacks. These can give a nice touch of elegance to any house by pulling back the curtains a little and allowing a little extra sunlight in the room.

If you have curtains made of thick fabric such as tapestry or jacquard, it’d be a good idea to tie your hangings back slightly with some decorative rope tassels.

Adding some trimings or fringing to even the simplest of curtains will give a decent touch to any room. Window curtain trimings are considered the final touch to a window’s covering decoration and yet they are just as important sometimes as having the curtains themselves.

Scarves is another good idea, of course you will have to go shopping for them seperately to get something that will sompliment your other house furnishings including the curtains themselves. Use them to tie back the curtains a little, loosely if you prefer, and make sure they are tied in a decent way (you may need to expirment on knotting them before you get it right).

Hold backs are another magnificent idea for a window’s decoration, you don’t even have to tie the window curtains back you can just buy them and add them to the window frames. It would be better if you buy decorative hold backs that match your curtain rod to give an equal look.

Window Curtains Styles and Fabrics

September 23, 2009

You can never go wrong when it comes to dressing your window. Since people have been interested in window hangings and valances many window curtain styles and fabrics have been created to fit in many people’s house decors.

If you are having some difficulties thinking of what could suit your house’s style best you should go out for a change and see what’s out there, you’ll be surprised of all the curtain styles and fabrics available, there’s even a wide range of choices online if you prefer shopping indoors.

When it comes to style you need to choose with your home decor in mind, not everything will look good with your home style. The color is of course one of the most important things to consider, your curtains’ appearance is 50% of the room’s decoration and you want to get something that will compliment your way of fashion.

If you haven’t found the style you’re looking for you can always visit another store, there’s always something else out there. Fortunately curtains and valances styles vary according to a person’s taste, so you can something not many people have and they will admire your personal way of home decorating.

As for fabrics, these can also give you a wide range of choices, it depends on the privacy and amount of light you want that you choose the fabric and texture you prefer. Cotton for instance is cool and will allow the wind flow through it giving your room a nice little breeze, other fabrics and styles like sheer curtains are not only meant for decoration but to block out sunlight. Sheer curtains are very light and airy but when in combination with other curtains they don’t allow much sunlight in.

Window Curtains for Kids

September 23, 2009

Almost everybody knows how difficult it is to please a kid, whether it’s a boy or a girl they will always depend on you to fullfil their needs. As for there bedrooms, well…it can be just as hard to decorate as any other room in the house only harder. Kids continuously need their room’s decor changed as they grow up and usually the thing that’s most obvious in a kid’s bedroom – or any bedroom for that matter – is the window curtains.

Luckily there are so many styles, fabrics and colors to choose from so you have a wide range of choices for your child’s room. Don’t only think about the looks, when your kid becomes a teenager he/she will need more privacy to study, have their friends come over and in general: make them feel like real young adults so the valances you choose have to be a bit secure.

Also some teenagers can be really picky with the things you choose for them especially when it comes to their bedroom’s style, it would help you big time if you ask your kid’s opinion on the colors and such before you go shopping.

However, if your kid is too young to decide for himself and it’s all up to you, then there are many window curtains in malls and stores that are sold specially for infant’s bedrooms, you’ll find all sorts of cartoon characters on them with many different colors that will make your kid’s room look well decorated and fun for children to play in.
